Family Game Night For Wii

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Hasbro came out with a new game set just last month called Family Game Night. This is a list of the great games that have been around for lots of years because everyone still likes to play them. And on Wii, it would be even better. Imagine playing Connect Four, Reverse Yatzee, Boggle Portal Cubes and Battleship Barrage. Host a party and have these games right there with Mr. Potato Head as the star. Did I mention that it also has Sorry! and the all new Sorry Sliders? Absolutely. Hasbro Family Game Night made especially for Wii.

Recommended for all ages. Fun in a box.

Christmas Is Coming Fast

Okay, that was pretty obvious. However, those of you who have left it to the last minute are riding in a spot you may not like. Those toys that you wanted to get for your kids may not be available any longer. Ah but then some of them will be still in stores and online right where you left them. So, what IS available and what is not? Here’s a list of things that are hot items and still available:

1) Elmo Live- new for 2008 season. He acts just like the real guy on Sesame Street. He is available most places though out of stock online in one place.

2) Kid-Tough Waterproof Digital Camera–From Fisher Price. Kid tough. Preschool approved. Available in most places although out of stock in one place online.

3) Webkinz–works with the website. Is not available in two nationally known stores but is available online.

4) Kota The Triceratops–interactive riding toy for preschool. Available in stores and most online stores. Out of stock in one online auction.

5) Ready for School Learning Center–by Fisher Price. Out of stock most stores and some online stores. Very hot item.

6) KidKraft Large Play Kitchen–hot item this year. Out of stock most places.

7) Air Hogs Zero Gravity Micro RC Car–little car that defies gravity. In stock in some places though limited. Hot item.

8 ) Air Hogs Havoc Heli Radio-Controlled Helicopters–small helicopters. In stock in all places.

9) Nerf N’ Strike Vulcan–Hasbro. Even though there was a recall on this item, it still remains strong. Out of stock in many stores. In stock online.

10) Nintendo Wii–out of stock in most locations both in stores and online. If you find this one, grab it!

I do realize that sometimes the money is not available until a certain time. We are all going through that right now. However, if you are diligent and determined, you can find those toys that you are looking for. Just remember to allow for shipping time if you purchase anything online. It does take time during this season for the mail to get through. If you have a choice, by all means use UPS, FexEx or whatever other delivery service is available. But get to that shopping now. You really do not have much time left.

Where To Find All Those Toys

I deliberately do not post individually where to get all those toys that I post on here. The reason for that is that there are several places that they are available usually. When there is only one place, I will most certainly post that place. The reason I do not post the individual places is because I do not wish to promote one company or store as being better than the rest. I do not believe that they are like that. The reality is that most of what I post here is going to be available at places like Walmart, eToys, Amazon, Target, ToysRUs, Hasbro, Mattel, Fisher Price and some on eBay. For the most part, these are the places I find the toys I post here.

However, there are some other places I look like those science kits come from a place called Discover This. There are lots of other stores, online and brick and mortar, so it would be great if you do the research yourself on some of these. I will definitely tell you when it is a one of a kind type store. I also find great toys at KBToys.com and Disneyshopping. KAPLA had some unique building sets. But if you would prefer that I post where to find them, I can do that. I will have to give a list though since I would rather not promote one particular place over another.

Any thoughts here on this? I would love your feedback on this subject. Please comment regardless of how you feel about it.

Playskool Busy Ball Popper

If you’re looking for hours of fun for your toddler, this could be what you’ve been looking for. The Busy Ball Popper works by pumping the plunger and putting a ball on the track. Then it follows the track, pops out the top and goes around the track again. With the crazy sound effects and the 8 lively songs that come with it, the Busy Ball Popper is sure to be played with for hours. The balls can spill over which gives the child a put-and-play event as well. This kids toy will benefit the child by increasing motor development skills.

Also available from Hasbro, Busy Basics Busy Ball Choo-Choo which is a motorized train.

Both toys are recommended for ages 9 months to 3 years. Busy Ball Popper requires 4 D batteries that are not included. Busy Ball Choo-Choo requires 3 C batteries that are not included.

Recall: Nerf N-Strike Recon Blasters

Hasbro is recalling their Nerf N-Strike Recon Blasters due the possibilities of injuries to children. This particular toy is yellow with a black handle and orange plunger, trigger, and reload clip. The word Nerf is in black lettering on each side of the toy. Hazards on the blaster are from the plunger which will pull a child’s skin during use. It can result in injury to the face, chest and/or neck. There is a report of injuries to 46 children from ages 4-12 and it resulted in bruising, abrasions, pinching/pinch marks, blood blisters and welts.

These toys were sold at Walmart, Toys R Us and Target as well as toy stores all over the nation from November 2007 through August 2008. Model number 63552 and UPC codes 653569272021 and 653569311218 can be found on the packaging. Only blasters with an exposed orange plunger are included in this recall. The toy was manufactured in China.

The toys must be taken away from the child immediately and you can contact Hasbro for a free cylindrical cover to prevent additional injuries. For information concerning this recall of the Nerf N-Strike Recon Blaster, contact Hasbro toll-free at (800) 245-0910 or go to the web site at www.hasbro.com/nerf.

EDIT NOTE: I went to the website and found this link to click on at Hasbro for the recall info.

Mr. Potato Head Is Still Around!

I got my first Mr. Potato Head for Christmas. I do not recall the year though I loved it at the time. Mr. Potato Head began his life in 1952 when George Lerner of New York City invented him. And based on a toy called ‘make a face’ that actually used a real potato for the head, Mr. Lerner decided to make his toy all plastic. He then sold his creation to Hasbro who marketed Mr. Potato Head with a styrofoam head for all those wonderful little facial expressions, noses, eyes and ears. There were instructions included that suggested using a real veggie for the head. I used a potato since I was a literal child and the thing was called Mr. Potato Head. Also, there was a drawback to the styrofoam head. If you really loved Mr. Potato Head and gave him constant expression changes, the styrofoam would get so many holes in it that it became useless. Thus, use a potato.

Strange and unusual: Mr. Potato Head received 4 write in votes in the election for mayor in Boise, Idaho, in 1985. Didn’t say much for the then incumbent mayor, did it? Or maybe it said all there needed to be said.

The manufacturer recommends for ages 3-5. 13 pieces included with a snap together body.

TinkerToy Building Sets

When I thought about my own Tinkertoy Set, I remembered how much fun I had building really strange things. A friend and I would play with the Tinkertoys for hours. It never occurred to me that they would some day be play things for my own kids or even grandkids. You could make vehicles, buildings and all sorts of alien stuff although, at the time, I do not believe we thought of it as alien, just something from our imagination. And it was so much fun to have such toys for hours on end. Yet, it takes imagination. Sometimes, the kids toys today just do not allow for that imagination to get into play. It’s all there for you already.

These Tinkertoy sets include both wooden and plastic parts. They appear to be smallish. The manufacturer suggests these are for ages 3 and up but if you have a 3 year old that still puts a lot of things in his or her mouth, I would suggest holding off on buying this toy for them. An older brother or sister would benefit more from this Tinkertoy set than at that particular age. You can find these toys at Hasbro’s website.
